Stanley Park Brewery Brun
On those cold winter days nothing tastes better than a hearty, dark beer, even if it is best when chilled. So light up that fire, kick your feet up and enjoy a Stanley Park Brewery Brun as #12 on the 12 Eat Drink Be Local Christmas Gifts of 2012.
This beer is the latest addition to their family of craft beer, exclusive to British Columbia and only sold for a limited time. Although brewed locally, months were spent learning first-hand from Brew Masters in Belgium in order to get that authentic Belgian taste with a slight Canadian influence.
Look how dark it is!
Unlike other winter ales it doesn’t boast strong caramel or vanilla notes but rather proves to be a malt-forward ale with nut nuances and a semi-sweet dried fruit nose. This is attributed to the precise blend of Crystal, Pilsner and Munich malts inside of the dark brown brew. The slight smokey flavour I tasted made me feel it would pair well with aged cheddar or Gouda, or a delicious peppered steak.
This beer is an easy-drinker, so much so that as I sat down with it in hand expecting to write notes, I found myself at the end of the bottle with a blank page. Solution? Grab a second bottle and give it another go.
