Schramm Premium Potato Vodka
The Pemberton Valley north of Whistler has an abundance of two things, world-class potatoes and pure, glacier fed water. Tyler Schramm looked at all those potatoes and all that water and he saw something no one else saw – vodka. Premium, organic, sipping vodka to be precise.
It’s one thing to have a vodka dream but it’s quite another thing to make it happen.
One Potato…Study brewing and distilling at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland and develop the original Schramm Vodka recipe.
Two Potato…Invest in a specially calibrated still from Germany and build the distillery by hand with brothers, Jon and Jake.
Three Potato…Source lots of organic potatoes from local organic farmer, Bruce Miller, from Across the Creek Organics.
Four…Jump through hoops to meet BC’s archaic liquor laws some of which pre-date prohibition!
The result, Schramm Vodka, British Columbia’s only ultra premium organic potato vodka. Not only is Schramm vodka winning over the hearts and palates of Canadians but it’s bringing home international accolades as well. Earlier this year it won ‘Double Gold’ and ‘Spirit of the Year’ at the 2010 World Spirits Awards Klagenfurt, Austria.
Tyler describes his vodka as “complex and full-bodied like a fine scotch. It proves vodka doesn’t have to be the ‘tasteless and odourless’ spirit anymore! ” Now that’s one hot potato!
