In our search for a wine to serve with our Easter lamb (check out yesterday’s On the Lamb in Pemberton), we were tipped off to an interesting blend from Hester Creek in Oliver. Hester Creek’s Character Red is made from 100% estate grown grapes. It derives its intense character from a blend of Merlot, Syrah, Malbec, and Petit Verdot grapes, each one bringing something interesting to the table. The Merlot accounts for its sweet disposition (tasting note: plummy), the Syrah gives it its wild side (tasting note: spicy), the Malbec grounds it (tasting note: earthy) and the Petit Verdot adds a hint of something unexpected (tasting note: floral). Our friends at Liberty Wine Merchants assure us it will pair beautifully with our Pemberton Lamb. We are looking forward to studying this character a little closer at our Easter celebration.
